On 31 March, Walter R. Stahel was the keynote speaker at the opening of the 2016 MIECF conference in Macau on ‘Green Economy – Opportunities for Waste Management’, with a presentation ‘The Green Economy and its environmental and social impacts and opportunities’. On 1st April, he chaired a Special Session on ‘Enhancing Waste Management through Internet plus’ and gave an introduction on ‘The Internet of Things – owner – user – value – liability issues’.

It is time to shift to a ‘resource-miser’ economy, writes Swiss
architect-engineer Walter Stahel in a Comment article in a special issue
of Nature this week devoted to the circular economy. “Quality is still
associated with newness not with caring; long-term use is still seen as
undesirable, not resourceful”, he writes.

Stahel coined the circular-economy concept, in which industrial outputs
become inputs, with goods that are at the end of their service life

Walter Stahel had the honour to participate in creating a video for EU
DG Environment on the Circular Economy.
The publication of the video coincided with the publication of the new
circular economy action plan of the European Commission on 2 December
